Week 27: Anna Dewdney & Llama

Anna Dewdney, author of the Llama LLama series.

I’ve had llamas on my mind for weeks. I thought maybe I’d make someone from South America in native attire but nothing was gelling. After a bit of research I figured Anna Dewdney was an appropriate role model vs the scads of interesting historical figures that did some not so good things. Anna died of brain cancer back in 2016 and her last wishes were in lieu of a funeral that people would read to a child. She was a former educator and promoted reading out loud to children whenever she could.

Here is a cool clip of Anna talking about how her name is pronounced

Here’s some more info about her life, all the books she’s written and the upcoming animated series.

Her personal home page no longer exists but you can visit the official llama llama page and see a memorial clip and also her latest book Animalicious which is at the top of my “must read” list!

Anna found success in her writing and illustrating career in 2006, wrote ten New York Times best sellers, and passed away in 2016. She might not be remembered but her books are a cherished legacy.

always, vickie
