Week 34: Judy Garland

Judy Garland, Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz

I’ve wanted to make Judy Garland forever but wasn’t sure which onscreen performance I wanted to turn into a quiet doll. Last week’s challenge was Nora O’Malley, so I chose someone very familiar this week and thought I’d also pick her most memorable role as well, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.

It was difficult to decide which outfit to put on this Judy Garland doll since she was in 35 movies. I enjoyed seeing her performances in Meet Me in St. Louis, Summer Stock, Easter Parade, and The Harvey Girls. This September a movie, Judy will be released portraying her life. She’ll be played by Renee Zellweger. She received many honors for her acting and singing.

Other fun facts include: her original name was Frances Ethel Gumm. She is Liza Minnelli’s mother. She thought she was ugly. Jerry Lewis once filled in for her in Los Vegas when she got laryngitis.

always, Vickie
