It was a sad day at our home when Steve Irwin passed away. We loved everything about “The Crocodile Hunter”, his passion, his excitement, his Australian accent, and his just overall niceness. He and I were approximately the same age and that was another wakeup call. We can all be gone in an instant. Of course as we watched his antics who didn’t wondered how long a guy that did so much crazy stuff with dangerous animals would actually survive.
The first time we “met” Steve Irwin was in his advertisement for Fedex.
Steve was the nicest guy and it’s kind of cool that he married a girl from Eugene, Oregon. In fact his wedding was there a year after my daughter Bethany was born and before we moved back to Salem, Oregon.
For a while we thought we’d have our own crocodile hunter in the house. Our son Jacob loved snakes and reptiles. He was always so intrigued and fascinated by nature. He would see and hear things that no one else noticed. Once while we were out picking chokecherries, he walks up and shoves an old bottle in my face which just happened to contain a live scorpion! He was very pleased with his catch but the people who lived across the street were shocked. They had no idea there were scorpions in their neighborhood. Due to housing restrictions he was never able to have his leopard gecko breeding program but he did have a rotating collections of snakes that he would catch and then eventually release back into the wild.
Here are some great pages with lots of facts about our favorite crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin and even the latest about his daughter Bindi.

Enjoy! Maybe spend a fun movie night with your family watching the movie Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course, one of John’s favorites because Steve keeps speaking to the camera just like on his regular wildlife shows.
Have a wonderful day!
always, Vickie
