Week 31: Donny Osmond

I remember spending the night at my grandma’s house with my cousin Michelle. Cousins are the best especially when you are just shy of a year apart in age. We would eat sugary cereal, watch cartoons and ooh and ahh over Donny Osmond and his album Puppy Love. Marie, his younger sister, was still a kid and his older brothers were “old”. Donny was just the right age and cuteness and unlike other teenage heartthrobs he was clean cut and morally acceptable. He was even a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints so we could envision being his chosen bride, the one that he’d take to the temple to be sealed together in an eternal marriage.

Well Donny Osmond grew up and so did we. I enjoyed watching The Donny and Marie show. I remember his fascination with purple socks and their fun camaraderie. I knew he went on to to star in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. What I didn’t know was that he sang I’ll Make A Man Out of You in Mulan and he also participated in Dancing With the Stars and won!

It’s fun to see how we’ve all grown up. Donny is now a grandpa of ten, but only one is a granddaughter. I admire that he’s had a successful career and marriage and a pretty awesome life. Way to go Donny!
