Week 15: Jesus The Christ

Happy Easter Jesus Christ.

I had a full day of subbing and then came home to work on my 15th Friday Challenge. It’s always a pondering, thoughtful decision of who I’ll recreate in Quiet Doll form each week. This is Easter weekend and once I sat down to create, I could think of no one else more appropriate that Jesus Christ.

It’s a bit intimidating to make a doll of the saviour of the world. I’ve been loving Pinterest for organizing my ideas and I created a board Bible, the I created a board Facial Hair. I usually use my laptop to pin images I find online and I’d been using my laptop to show an approved video in the seminary class I was subbing. During the lunch break I came home and attempted to pin images using my desktop.. wow.. so much harder… I love having a laptop that makes it easy to pin.

The downside to Pinterest is I get so distracted! It’s like putting me in a craft store with a thousand dollar gift certificate and I’m off and running. The more I tried to see how others drew the bearded Nazarene, I was flummoxed and frustrated with my attempts. Don’t get me wrong I’ve done beards before but cutesy fluffy ones for Noah and Santa. This time I was working on the kindest, gentlest and also very masculine Jesus.

Finally I jumped in and started with making the robes, based on the shepherds I did for Christmas. I got the arms wrong, the length, etc. I pulled out my sketches and sketched more beards, beards and mustaches, and longish hair. head scarves, etc. In the end I remembered my mantra. Just do it. It doesn’t need to be perfect. His smile is kind. I’m sure this is a project that I’ll come back to and tweak. Happy Easter. He is risen and reigns. My Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.
