Count Down Mermaids for Christmas Kickstarter Day 4

So grateful I changed the launch date from Sept 15th to Sept 19th! Being flexible is tricky for me at times. I also messaged Andrea at Andrea’s Boutique here in town and changed the date for the Quiet Doll Birthday party to Sept 29th. It will be during our local Spud Harvest but it won’t be during General Conference.

How My Quiet Dolls got started!

Every year the first Sunday in April and October is when the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints holds annual conferences. I always looked forward to it as a kid as it was church on TV time since we lived in Idaho. Once I was married, John and I lived in Oregon and we had to go to the church to watch the satellite broadcast- the olden days before the internet. John often had to work on Saturday so I’d haul the kids to the church alone. In Oct of 1991 I had three little ones to take care of alone. My oldest was four, my second was two and I had a 3 month old baby. After the first session from 9am to 11 am I popped over to the store, grabbed a few treats and stopped in at the local sewing store- I think it was a Joanne’s Fabric and bought felt, a Sharpie marker and got scissors and paper from home. The next conference session was from 1pm to 3 pm and the kids spent the time entertained with the cute little dolls I made. I used a pattern out an old nursery manual for starters. Over the years I branched off, created my own doll body and the clothes to go along with it. It’s kind of amazing all the fun dolls we’ve made over the past 32 years.

Accountability for today

Early babysitting duty again this morning but I had backup so I was able to get some things done. I listened to The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale – part of a 48 Days challenge hosted by Dan Miller. Did my Duolingo, My laptop failed to connect to the internet so I hurried and did my daily computer chores on the desktop. So grateful to have a back up and that google chrome passwords are shared between computers! I was doing my least favorite chore, dishes, when John came home. He offered to take me out to lunch and we’d take my laptop in at the same time. Took the laptop into The Rextech in Rexburg. They always take good care of us but they had quite the waiting list so we left it there and went to Denny’s. John had his chicken fried steak and I had salmon both off the senior menu. He wore his new No Guts No Menudo T-shirt and let’s just say I’ll be dropping off a copy of his Makin My Way book to our waiter Brandon when I’m out and about Friday.

Nap once I got home. Once I was up it was time to make some dolls for the video. Ben gave me some directions and here’s what I came up with so far.

googly eyes on My Quiet Doll Mermaids
Googly eyes? Yes or no?

Thank goodness I had some pre-cut doll bodies. I started at 5:24 pm and by 6:17pm I’d completed all 6 dolls with fun hair and tails. I didn’t feel like setting up the Ellison die cutting machine so thought it would be a good thing to figure out how long it would take to cut these out by hand. Let’s just say it would take a while but I could cut out all the dolls for the Christmas Kickstarter if I had to. But I don’t have to. I’ve got the Silhouette Cameo 4, the Ellison die cutter with body and hair die. I also have Jason Rogers at Mountain View Millworks with his super amazing laser machine.

I checked out the post my friend Debbie Davis did to see what the favorite hair colors would be and still no consensus. Everyone wants their favorite and the favorites are all different.

So I’ll ask again now that you all have samples to see. What’s your favorite mermaid hair?

always

Vickie
