The Father of the Peanut Industry
George Washington Carver was born a slave but earned his master’s degree and taught at Tuskegree University in Alabama. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke highly of him, ”
“From oppressive and crippling surroundings, George Washington Carver lifted his searching, creative mind to the ordinary peanut, and found therein extraordinary possibilities for goods and products unthinkable by minds of the past, and left for succeeding generations an inspiring example of how an individual could rise above the paralyzing conditions of circumstance.”
Many books have been written about this extraordinary man who excelled at plant research and invention. He also painted and played the piano. He was also a generous individual who didn’t patent his finds but allowed them to be accessible to everyone.
