On January 18, 2018, Russell M. Nelson became the 17th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He has served in leadership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1984. Before that, he was a prestigious surgeon and medical researcher. He performed heart surgeries on Fang Rongxiang , beloved Chinese opera star, and Apostle Spencer W. Kimball who later became the 12th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was apprehensive about this surgery but Kimball trusted him implicitly and it was a success.
Russell M. Nelson graduated from high school at the age of 16. He completed a 4 year MD degree program in three years while finishing at the head of his class. He served two years during the Korean War. He built a heart-lung bypass machine that was used in his surgeries. A great leader in his vocational field he is well known for his research and also for this patience and kindness during the operating process.
He speaks Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, skied up into his nineties and has perfect pitch, plays the piano and organ.
His 95th Birthday was highly celebrated.
I hope you enjoyed this look into the life of a highly favored latter-day prophet of God.
