There were so many lovely outfits I could find Audrey Hepburn wearing it was difficult to select one. I chose this elegant suit that she wears in the beginning of Sabrina. I could just have well as chosen the white ball gown with black embroidery, the one that appears in the publicity posters,,the one where she has matching black and white poodles. The suit just felt right and who else can pull of a turban… not me! I look like someone who just got out of the shower!
Born Audrey Kathleen Ruston, the daughter of a Dutch baroness and and influential Englishman. During WWII she went by the name Edda van Heemstra to hide her ties with England. Her family suffered persecution and hardships that she would never forget and which left her weak and incapable of becoming a prima ballerina. After the war her mother was reduced to working as hired help to the wealthy.
She advanced step by step in her acting career, until discovered by Colette the author of Gigi. Colette insisted she play the part of Gigi in the Broadway play. After starring in Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck she accepted a contract with Paramount Studios. Sabrina was her next movie.
Audrey Hepburn had hazel eyes, brown and green. She was a bit upset when they didn’t use her to sing the parts of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, as she was perfectly capable, but the studio had different plans. She was a great advocate for UNICEF and traveled to many countries on humanitarian business. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George H.W. Bush. She had two sons. I was surprised she died from cancer when she was only in her early sixties. Her little black dress worn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s sold for 467,200 lbs when it was up for auction at Christie’s.
I don’t think there ever lived a more charming gracious, kind and elegant woman as Audrey Hepburn.
always, Vickie
